Trump: We must talk to the “party” to end tensions
Fady Mahouly
US President Donald Trump announced that the United States is seeking to address the situation in Lebanon in the next stage, stressing that Washington will discuss ways to settle the existing conflict through communication with the various parties concerned.
Trump said that his country hopes to reach a solution to the Lebanese crisis, noting the necessity of holding talks with Hezbollah and Israel as part of efforts aimed at “fixing the situation” and ending tensions.
Trump's statements came in conjunction with his announcement of signing an agreement with Iran, stressing that the new agreement differs from the nuclear agreement concluded by the administration of former US President Barack Obama, which he described as "bad."
The US President stated that the memorandum of understanding signed with Tehran represents an “important and strong document,” noting that the US administration will publish it soon.
Trump stressed that the agreement includes a clear commitment that Iran will not obtain a nuclear weapon, while the lifting of sanctions remains linked to Tehran’s behavior during the next stage.
Regarding maritime navigation, Trump confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz will be fully opened on Friday after the completion of mine clearance operations, considering that the resumption of normal movement through the vital waterway constitutes an important step for global economic stability.
Trump indicated that the decline in oil prices and the rise in stock markets reflect the markets' satisfaction with recent developments, reaffirming his country's desire to establish good relations with Iran, but he warned that failure to achieve this could lead to a return to military confrontation, expressing his hope to avoid this scenario.
